This position is responsible for underwriting a diverse book of business, employing the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals. The role includes management and growth of the overall portfolio within the appropriate underwriting discipline/guidelines, as well as marketing and servicing of existing and potential insureds. A basic knowledge of Property insurance is also required to assist with underwriting Commercial Combined business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform general underwriting functions including submission review, pricing analysis, setting of terms and conditions, and quote/binder/invoice authorizations.
  2. Ensure timely and correct issuance of policies and craft endorsement wordings for legal approval.
  3. Provide guidance to the Underwriting Support Assistant for processing policies and endorsements.
  4. Perform referrals with VP Casualty and SVP Casualty as needed.
  5. Maintain underwriting files and reporting systems in accordance with guidelines.
  6. Collaborate with the Actuarial Department for account pricing when appropriate.
  7. Liaise with Claims Department on claim matters affecting profitability.
  8. Stay updated on industry issues and developments.
  9. Travel within Ireland and Europe for meetings as required.
  10. Assist in training underwriting and support staff.
  11. Engage in project work as needed.
  12. Plan and monitor the portfolio of business.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Person Specification:

  1. Minimum of 5 years experience underwriting Casualty accounts.
  2. Basic knowledge of Property accounts underwriting.
  3. Strong marketing, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  4. Knowledge of standard market policy and endorsement wordings.
  5. Professional Insurance Designation such as ACII/FCII is desirable.
  6. Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork ability.
  8. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  10. Good knowledge of technical rating tools.
