Applications are invited for an ENT Surgeon to join a team of consultants in the Ear, Nose and Throat department at the Royal London Hospital.

The post is an 8.5 Pas appointment with an interest in Otology and Paediatrics in this tertiary referral centre.

Main duties of the job

Consultants will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their departments. Consultants will undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their clinics or department. All Consultants are expected to assume responsibility both singly and corporately for the management of the Junior Medical Staff. In particular, they are expected to be responsible for approving and monitoring junior staff rotas and junior staff locum arrangements, where appropriate. The successful applicant will be expected to participate fully in the medical audit arrangements in the District.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential

  • FRCS (ORL-HNS) or equivalent

Desirable

  • Higher degree – BSc MS MD PhD

RegistrationEssential

  • Registered on GMC specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining it at the time of the interview
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice

Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential

  • I.T. skills and computer literacy
  • Ability to work independently as an ENT specialist
  • Ability to deal with all ENT emergencies

Desirable

  • NHS experience in last 3 years

Specialty/Sub-SpecialtyEssential

  • Otology ENT fellowship demonstrating subspecialist training in Otology ENT surgery
  • Broad based general professional training in general medicine

Desirable

  • Previous experience as a NHS consultant

Training and TeachingEssential

  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff

Desirable

  • Training the Trainer Course or equivalent
  • Teaching and Assessment in Practice Course or equivalent
  • Experience of setting up and organising courses

Management and AuditEssential

  • Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding and experience of audit

Desirable

  • Evidence of service audit, design or change management
